PKA is an abbreviation for Pilotkonditionierungsanlage, which is a pilot conditioning facility in Gorleben supposed to prepare nuclear waste for final disposal. The plant has been constructed years ago, but is not in operation yet due to local resistance.

In the same village of Gorleben also a temporary repository for high level active waste (packed in Castor containers), another one for low level active waste (packed in barrels), and a so-called "research mine" for final disposal.
