4 Years Since the Nuclear Accident

Programme in Tokyo, Fukushima and Sendai
March 10-17, 2014

Peace Boat is co-organizing a series of events in Tokyo, Fukushima and Sendai marking the 4th anniversary since the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami and subsequent Fukushima nuclear disaster. This programme is in parallel with the 3rd United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) to be held in Sendai. Disaster risk reduction and nuclear experts from various countries throughout Asia, Europe and Latin America will be attending, along with representatives of communities from disaster affected areas. An overview of the events is on the following page, along with a list of speakers.

Booklet Launch: 10 Lessons from Fukushima

Reducing risk and protecting communities from nuclear disasters
We have created a booklet entitled “10 Lessons from Fukushima: Reducing risk and protecting communities from nuclear disasters”. This booklet, which is based upon the experiences and testimony of local people, will be translated into around 15 languages, spreading the lessons of Fukushima around the world.

Peace Boat is an Organizing Partner of the NGO Major Group for the 3rd United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR); and acting as Japan CSO Coalition for 2015 WCDRR (JCC2015), a network of civil society organizations working towards this conference, in particular, to ensure that the voices of those affected by the disaster are heard, and to make proposals for the ongoing resilience of communities.
