Medtem ko smo sestavljali pričujočo številko glasila NukeNews, se je
na severu Finske v kraju Pyhäjoki pričel akcijski teden "Reclaim the
Cape". Podjetje Fennovoima je že uničilo vele površine gozdov in
mokrišč, od katerih jih je bilo precej pod posebnim naravovarstvenim
režimom. V zadnjih tednih je bilo organiziranih več uspešnih malih
akcij, odzivi policije pa so bili nasilni (uporaba poprovega spreja in
paralizatorja), z namenom prisiliti aktiviste, da ustavijo svoje
aktivnosti.

22. januarja 2016 so protestniki blokirali promet do Fennovoima-
Rosatom-ovega gradbšča - najprej s postavljanjem pred tovorna vozila
in kasneje s plezanjem na njih.

Trenutno je gradbišče jedrske elektrarne precej ranljivo, saj do njega
vodi zgolj ena cesta, ki je ustrezna za prevoz s težkimi vozili.
Akcija protestnikov je zato učinkovito ustavila promet. Podobne akcije
napovedujejo tudi v prihodnje.

4.  Avstralija: hoja Karlamilyi v juniju

Starešine avstralskega ljudstva Martu so odprle povabilo na osem
dnevni pohod skozi nacionalni park Karlamilyi, ki bo potekal v znak
protesta predlaganemu rudniku urana Kintyre. Pohod bo potekal skozi
Karlamilyi, čez reko Karlamilyi, skozi Lullapakujarra do Punomullara
ter do Puljcatja, puščave Queen Baths in potem Kintyre.

5.  Avstralija: Mednarodni jedrski odpadki & Južno-avstralska 
    vrhovna komisija

Zvezni opozicijski voditelj Bill Shorten je podal kvalificirano
podporo za vzpostavitev več milijard dolarjev vrednega skladišča za
hrambo radioaktivnih odpadkov v Južni Avstraliji. Vlada Južne
Avstralije še ni oblikovala stališča, bodisi za ali proti predlogu za
odlagališče, ki bi lahko prevzelo več kot 10 odstotkov svetovnih
radioaktivnih odpadkov, je povedal premier Jay Weatherill. Izvedena
študija ugotavlja, da bi odlagališče v Južni Avstraliji lahko prevzelo
13 odstotkov svetovnih radioaktivnih odpadkov, delovati pa bi lahko
začelo konec naslednjega desetletja. V Južni Avstraliji je trenutno
zaznati veliko politično podporo za vzpostavitev globalnega skladišča
za radioaktivne odpadke, pri čemer računajo na velike finančne
prilive, ki bi iz tega izhajali.

Po drugi strani pa osrednja državna okoljska inštitucija pozdravlja
izid novega poročila, ki pod vprašaj postavlja trditve o visokih
finančnih prilivih potencialnega skladiščenja radioaktivnih odpadkov v
Južni Avstraliji. Poročilo je bilo pripravljeno s strani vodilnega
gospodarskega think-tank-a, Avstralskega Inštituta. Svet za ohranjanje
Južne Avstralije je naročil Avstralskemu Inštitutu, da analizira
predloge senatorja Seana Edwardsa, ki jih je ta podal Južno-avstralski
jedrski vrhovni komisiji.

6.  Premislek o indijskem jedrskem projekt
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Vas Jaduguda je situirana v novonastali državi Jharkhanda na
severo-vzhodu Indije. Uranovo rudo so tam odkrili v zgodnjih 1950-ih
in leta 1967 pričeli rudariti. V minulih letih je bilo na površje
spravljene približno 1000 ton uranove rude dnevno, ki jo obdelujejo v
mlinu v soseščini rudnika. Uranov koncentrat nato prepeljejo približno
1400 kilometrov do Hyderabada, kjer ga nadalje predelajo v uranov
oksid, s katerim polnijo gorivne palice. Te napajajo 10 indijskih
jedrskih reaktorjev. Približno 25% urana, uporabljenega v jedrski
industriji v Indiju prihaja iz Jaduguda rudnikov.

7.  Irati Wanti ("Strup - Pustite ga")

Skupina politikov in poslovnežev razvija načrt za izgradnjo
mednarodnega odlagališča visoko radioaktivnih odpadkov v Južni
Avstraliji. Načrtu močno nasprotujejo številni Avstralci in velika
večina staroselcev.

Avstralska zveza proti jedrski energiji, ki zastopa staroselce iz
celotne Avstralije, poziva ’jedrske’ države, naj ne prenašajo
radioaktivnih odpadkov v Avstralijo. Jedrska industrija ima zgodovino
razlastitve staroselcev in onesnaževanja okolja - od testov atomske
bombe in rudarjenja urana do predlogov odlagališč radioaktivnih
odpadkov.

9.  Zaprite staro in nevarno jedrsko elektrarno Pickering (Kanada)

Zaprtje jedrske elektrarne Pickering leta 2018, ko ji poteče licenca,
in začetek z deli demotaže jedrskega obrata bi bilo varneje, ustvarilo
bi več novih delovnih mest do leta 2030 ter prihranilo stotine
milijonov dolarjev. Podpišite peticijo za zaprtje Pickeringa in proti
podaljšanju življenjske dobe do leta 2024, kot načrtuje vlada.

10. Velika Britanija: Odprto pismo županu Copeland-a, West Cumbria

13. Slovenia: Commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Chernobyl
    NPP Accident

As part of the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl
NPP accident, several events were organized in Slovenia, an online
exhibition about Chernobyl was published, and the film Ukranian Zombie
Reactors, which was created as part of the project Catching the train
of development, was presented.

14. Report: NEC2016 Conference: "Nuclear Energy - Expensive Gamble"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There were three opening and eight main speeches presented at the
Nuclear Energy Conference 2016 held in Prague on April 5. The
conference website includes the presentations, profiles of the
speakers, photos and audio recordings of all three sections in three
languages.

Speakers expressed their surprise at how there is still a need to talk
about the unresolved safety problems 30 years after Chernobyl and five
years after Fukushima. It was highlighted that energy economics has
changed: today we need flexible electricity systems and small units
such as renewable energy sources. These are getting cheaper, with
almost zero operating costs and negligible costs of disposal in
comparison to nuclear power plants. A pressing need to reduce risks
associated with radioactive releases to the environment was mentioned
and how the associated risks increase with a plant lifetime extension.
In connection with this there were serious concerns raised about an
indefinite license to operate the first block of the Dukovany nuclear
power plant which was issued in March 2016.

15: Brzkov (CZ): Will they stop the proceedings for extension of the
    protected deposit area?

It has been almost a year since the lawyer Luboš Kliment began to
represent the four municipalities (Brzkov, Věžnice, Přibyslav and
Polná), including owners of endangered estates and the association Our
Future Without Uranium (NBBU) from Brzkov. Since then a few
discussions with locals were held and many press releases to the media
were issued.

16. NukeNews Mini Camp in Middle Saxony/Germany

From 8th – 12th September, 2016 you are invited to a five days working
meeting in Döbeln, Middle Saxony. This mini camp will be a chance to
meet NukeNews activists and interested people from several regions
across Europe to discuss questions that appeared towards the work with
the newsletter system and to improve the quality and the impact of the
NukeNews. The project meeting will focus on developing the NukeNews
newsletter system further, to get to know each other and each other's
topics. Another aspect is also to have a nice time together to
strengthen our friendships and collaborations to flourish the success
of our future work.

17. Thematic Anti-nuclear World Social Forum
----------------------------------------------------------------------
March 23-28 the first thematic anti-nuclear World Social Forum (WSF)
took place in Tokyo. The idea arose at the 2015 WSF in Tunis.
Participants from more than ten countries on three continents called
for creating a worlwide network for exchange, mutual support and
co-ordinated actions against civil and military usage of nuclear
power. They agreed to arrange a second topical anti-nuclear World
Social Forum in Canada during the Montreal WSF in Quebec from 8th to
14th of August. A third topical WSF is supposed to take place in April
2017 in Europe during the anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.
