---------------------------------------------------------------------
0. Preface
---------------------------------------------------------------------
It is accomplished - the very first issue of the NukeNews newsletter
system has been produced! This is really amazing as it took us years
(!) between the idea, technical preparation and actual news work. We
want to provide anti-nuclear information from people and groups
connected within the Nuclear Heritage Network to other activists and
interested people in many regions of the world. This first issue will
be sent out in English, Finnish, German, Russian and probably also
French. It is supposed to produce releases every three months.

We still look for more volunteers from different countries to provide
the newsletter with short (one paragraph containing brief information
on one issue) messages (in English) about activities from activists
of the network, about important nuclear developments in their
countries, events of international interest. Also people are wanted
who are willing to help with the translation of these small pieces of
English text into other languages for the different language versions
of the NukeNews. In case you can help, write to
contact@nuclear-heritage.net .

1. The so-called German nuclear phase-out is a fraud
---------------------------------------------------------------------
While the German government and some conservative media celebrate the
recent strategy decision of Germany's leaders to be a consequent
reaction to the atomic disaster in Fukushima and call it an advance,
it is the opposite. With the latest (May/June, 2011) decisions of the
ruling parties of Germany a partly extension of the remaining
lifetime of the nuclear reactors is supposed to be set by law. The
atomic industry receives an other guarantee for the continuation of
nine reactors. And legalizes new Fukushimas and Chernobyls for at
least eleven more years.

2. Fukushima Emergency Alert - basic information + updates
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Since the very beginning of the atomic catastrophe in Fukushima we
tried to gather all relevant information, assessments, data and
materials from operator, Japanese and international authorities,
independent NGOs, media and anti-nuclear scientists on the network's
website. Although it is impossible without a big staff to take into
consideration all sources of information, it became an incredible
source of knowledge about the atomic disaster. This webpage is
supposed to be a basis for your anti-nuclear work, use it!

In probably one month a four-sided leaflet will provide basic
information about the catastrophe, the accident history, releases,
impacts and consequences. It will provide the facts in a timeless
manner, but mention those concerns of critics that have not been
confirmed by the authorities yet, too. The leaflet will be published
in several languages - contact falk@nuclear-heritage.net to help with
translation and distribution of this reach-out material in your
region!

See the whole report on: http://atomiclegacy.net

---------------------------------------------------------------------
3. International anti-nuclear gathering in August
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The next anti-nuclear gathering will take place in the first week of
August in České Budějovice (Czech Republic, close to the Austrian
border). The last networking gathering had been organized by the
Nuclear Heritage Network in Helsinki in March 2010, smaller
gatherings took place in summer 2010 in some 10 cities as part of the
Baltic Sea Info Tour.

This time we will have a small camp in the garden of an anti-nuclear
activist. Please don't forget to bring foam mattress and sleeping bag
as well as tent (if possible), besides your leaflets, photos, films
and other materials documenting the anti-nuclear activities of your
group or yourself. As the capacities will be limited, please announce
yourself to us (contact@nuclear-heritage.net) as soon as possible!

4. Walk away from uranium mining
---------------------------------------------------------------------
It is time to walk away from this costly, toxic industry, which
produces radioactive waste & weapons usable material. This is a
grassroots awareness raising and action based campaign in solidarity
with Aboriginal people to ban uranium mining in Western Australia.

The walk will bring people together from all over the world to walk
(or bike ride) from community to community. Families & people of all
ages, backgrounds & cultures are invited to come together to walk the
land and live in community sharing responsibilities.

It is a non-violent action that aims to highlight the deadly &
dangerous affects of uranium mining & create dialogue with the public
to end the uranium cycle, to promote renewable energy resources & to
rid the world of nuclear power & weapons.

5. International blockade of the Olkiluoto NPP
---------------------------------------------------------------------
After the successful first publicly announced blockade of an atomic
plant in Finland last year, for August 20, 2011 the second big
international blockade action has been announced in Olkiluoto,
Finland. You are invited to join the action yourself or with your
group, to contribute your support for the preparation and by
spreading the word about the blockade.

Finland is "the" symbolic country for the so-called "nuclear
renaissance" - let's show to the world that there is no future for
nuclear power at all, and that the international community of anti-
nuclear activists is supporting each other as well as the radioactive
threat doesn't stop at national borders.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Blockade at Hinkley Point NPP
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A non-violent blockade of Hinkley Point nuclear power station in
Somerset On 3 October 2011 we will – with hundreds of people –
non-violently blockade the access to Hinkley Point nuclear power
station for one day. While the blockade will be the key focus, there
will be plenty of roles and activities for people who do not wish to
risk arrest. So everyone who is anti-nuclear can come and join us on
the day to express their opposition in many different ways. We will
prepare ourselves for this blockade with non-violence training, and
we will not be deterred by police trying to prevent our non-violent
action. The blockade will be inclusive, allowing people from all
walks of life and with a wide range of experience in non-violent
action – or no experience at all – to participate. We will organise a
safe environment for everyone, built on trust for each other, but
also on our determination to stop nuclear new-build.

7. Anti-nuclear Chernobyl Day action in Minsk - 12 activists arrested
---------------------------------------------------------------------
In an international action anti-nuclear people from Belarus, Germany
and Poland protested with banners and short rallies against the NPP
project in Astraviec at popular locations in Minsk. It was April 25,
25 years after the historic night when the Chernobyl NPP exploded in
the most serious disaster before Fukushima, the same day when some
140,000 people demonstrated against nuclear power in Germany and
other countries due to this anniversary, too. After one successful
and undisturbed 6-minutes rally, the second attempt was ended by
civil Belarusian police forces catching 12 of approximately 40
activists and arresting them. The action, and even more the police
reaction, provoked big media attention as well in Belarus as in other
countries, especially in Germany.

8. Kola NPP planned dangerous experiment
---------------------------------------------------------------------
On June 9, 2011 public hearings on the project "Work of the 4th
unit of the Kola NPP at increased power" will be held in Polarnie
Zory.

The 4th reactor of the Kola nuclear power plant was launched in 1984.
There are only 3 years left until the end of the project's life time.
Reactor safety has already been a concern among many experts, and "the
experiment of acceleration of the reactor can lead to most disastrous
consequences", - considers the environmental organization Nature and
Youth.

In addition, currently the Murmansk region has an excess of energy.
The reactors do not operate at full capacity, or one unit is at idle,
and the region took a certain course to increase the energy
efficiency. The coordinator of antinuclear projects for the
organization "Nature and Youth" Vitaly Servetnik asks "Why there is
risking of health and safety of people and spending considerable
funds to a slight increase in power of the aging Kola nuclear power
plant reactor?".

9. Outreach materials to end the atomic insanity
---------------------------------------------------------------------
We produced a number of leaflets during the last months to supply the
network with basic information for anti-nuclear work. They are
available at least in two languages each; some materials are
available already in much more languages. Most of them have been
printed in color. We also produced anti-nuclear stickers with the
"nuclear scream". You can order all of it by email to
contact@nuclear-heritage.net, by mail to Nuclear Heritage Network, Am
Baerental 6, D-04720 Ebersbach OT Mannsdorf, Germany, or by phone at
+49 3431 5894170. Donations for shipping costs and printing are
requested, but you will get the materials for free, if you can't
afford giving money for it.
