Nuclear Energy – Expensive Gamble

The spring of 2016 is an anniversary of two of the worst nuclear power plant accidents in history so far. It has been thirty years since the disaster in Chernobyl, Ukraine; the reactors in Fukushima, Japan, were destroyed five years ago. Looking back in time today, we can assess the impacts of the disasters and the effectiveness of preventive measures adopted as a consequence of them. Have the operators taken adequate lessons from past accidents? Do current nuclear power plants attain a satisfactory safety level? What risks have to be taken into account? And how is the safety issue reflected in the nuclear energy economics? The objective of the international conference NEC 2016 “Nuclear Energy – Expensive Gamble” is to discuss, in the presence of international and Czech experts, precisely these economic aspects of the nuclear power industry, which condition its future.
